Strange adb ls output

I had a little surprise a while ago when I tried to list the files from /system with adb shell. When running ls or ls –l the cmd was displaying something like this:

ls -l
total 26
lrwxrwxrwx    1 0        0               14 Aug 21 20:47 ←[1;36mapp←[0m -> ←[1;34m/system/sd/app←[0m
lrwxrwxrwx    1 0        0               22 Aug 21 20:47 ←[1;36mapp-private←[0m -> ←[1;34m/system/sd/app-private←[0m
drwx——    1 1000     1000          2048 Aug 21 20:59 ←[1;34mbackup←[0m
lrwxrwxrwx    1 0        0               23 Aug 21 20:47 ←[1;36mdalvik-cache←[0m -> ←[1;34m/system/sd/dalvik-cache←[0m

This is very normal, because the command prompt doesn’t know how to interpret the ouptut from the phone, because it’s sending color codes. The fix is just entering the following command every time you connect to your phone via adb shell:

alias ls=’ls –color=never’

The Terminal application from the phone will always list the files ok.
