Personally, I find Mplayer one of the best media players, and because it’s open source makes me like it more. The first thing that I’ve searched when I needed to play a video after I bought my phone was.. MPlayer.. but I couldn’t find anything. Fortunately, thanks to xda-developers and specially to the user ajeet17181, the MPlayer was finally ported to Android.
Here’s a little how to for installing it:
- Download these mplayer_apk.zip and mplayer_sdcard.zip from here
- Extract the archives. Send the file MPlayer.apk contained by mplayer_apk.zip to your phone and install it
- Copy the folder mplayer contained by mplayer_sdcard.zip to the root of your SD card.
Now, the you’ve got a runnable mplayer, here are a few tips:
When you copy a movie with subtitle, make sure that the subtitle has exactly the same name as the movie, and they’re all in the same folder.
You cand play around with mplayer.conf found in the mplayer folder that you copied to the sdcard. You can increase the subtitle font size, osd font size, subtitle encoding.. (you can search for the mplayer.conf options of the internet).
Here’s my mplayer.conf:
